The Center for Citizenship and Constitutional Government (CCCG) is looking for a dynamic and creative individual to develop and advance its operations and its engagement programs with the broad range of the Center's audiences, partners, and participants.


The CCCG is a vibrant academic center seeking to cultivate thoughtful and educated citizens by supporting scholarship and education focused on the ideas and institutions that make up effective constitutional government and a virtuous society. Focused on fundamental questions of law, politics, justice, and the common good, the CCCG is the home to the College of Arts and Letters' Minor in Constitutional Studies, a popular academic program with more than 175 enrolled students. Among its activities, the Center also supports and offers programs for Ph.D. students, hosts a visiting scholar program, sponsors a lecture and debate series, runs the undergraduate Tocqueville Fellows program, sponsors a book series with UND Press, and hosts and supports scholarly conferences. In its courses, seminars, conferences, and colloquia, the CCCG seeks to nurture in its faculty and students the knowledge and character conducive to rigorous scholarship, insightful teaching, and responsible citizenship, thereby contributing to the University's mission to pursue truth and to nurture a concern for the common good that will bear fruit in service to justice. The Center's events annually draw into the CCCG community numerous dynamic scholars and major figures in American political, judicial, and intellectual life, as well as the general public.


The Associate Director plays an integral role in the strategic development, management, and growth of key programs and initiatives, including the following key areas of responsibility:


Development and continuing management of the Center's undergraduate and graduate student academic programs, including:

  • as director for undergraduate minors, to advise new and continuing undergraduates on appropriate courses that will satisfy requirements for the minor in Constitutional Studies;
  • to develop, manage, and market course offerings for the undergraduate minor in Constitutional Studies (including development of new courses as well as singular offerings by guests and affiliated faculty);
  • to ensure that all CCCG-sponsored courses are properly advertised and communicated to students, scheduled with the University Registrar, and cross-listed;
  • to manage and, as needed, to innovate the Tocqueville Fellows program, including its distinctive program of academic seminars and colloquia as well as applications and selection of new Fellows;
  • to conduct annual benchmarking of the Center's student programs in relation to other comparable U.S. programs;
  • to develop robust and impactful undergraduate and graduate student programming, consisting of lectures, seminars, workshops, panels, colloquia, and other programming on issues and timely topics in constitutional studies, and in response to growing national and international needs and interests (plus research, pedagogy, and professionalization for graduate students);
  • to conduct strategic outreach and marketing for prospective students, comparable programs, and graduate degree alumni;
  • to develop and implement the Center's new distinguished visiting teaching fellows one-credit undergraduate seminar and course initiatives;
  • to teach courses for the Con Studies minor, including the gateway course and/or 1-credit courses, as needed;
  • in collaboration with the Center's Leadership Team, to develop probative and substantive annual programming for current students and alumni in Washington, D.C. that engages public officials, elected representatives, and other policy makers;
  • in collaboration with the Co-Director, to manage the Center's student program budgets and monthly reconciliation;
  • in collaboration with the Assistant Director, to compile information used in year-end and grant reporting;
  • in collaboration with the Assistant Director, to assess current practices and to implement new and innovative strategies to market the Center's student programming;
  • as part of the CCCG Leadership Team, to identify additional strategic events that advance the mission and goals of the Center; and
  • to serve as liaison with appropriate internal and external operational partners and units, including the Arts and Letters Office of Undergraduate Studies, the University Registrar, Saint Mary's College, Holy Cross College, and the Graduate School.


Creation and management of alumni programming and alumni relations, including:

  • to develop a sustainable marketing and outreach plan for outreach and communication with the Center's growing community of alumni;
  • to develop probative and substantive annual programming for CCCG alumni that engages a range of the Center's signature topics and issues;
  • to assist the Assistant Director with developing and updating the Center's alumni database;
  • to serve as liaison with appropriate University and College of Arts and Letters units regarding alumni relations and outreach.

Development and continuing management of internal and external student opportunities, including:

  • to communicate the annual internal grants cycle for students, to review applications and to select top grant proposals, and to oversee the communication of grant awards;
  • to identify internal and external opportunities via the Center, including those for summer (internships, summer study, and special seminars) as well as during the academic year (to include special programming funded by external grants), to vet these with the Leadership Team, and to communicate these to the Center's student networks; and
  • to assess future opportunities and to make appropriate recommendations for new or distinctive opportunities throughout the calendar year.

Assist with planning and execution of the Center's programming and events, including:

  • to assist with the planning and execution of its robust schedule of programming and events such as the CCCG's Statesmanship Dinners or Tocqueville Dinners;
  • to plan and execute student programming for end-of-year events; and
  • to serve as facilitator, convener, or host for Center student events.






Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Masters degree or Bachelors degree (5 years) or advanced certification beyond Bachelors; Doctoral degree (Ph.D., J.D.) preferred

Experience: 3-5 years of transferable experience, preferably in a higher education or other high-performance environment.

Skills:

Applicable project management experience.

Exceptional interpersonal skills.

Ability to teach collegiate courses in political theory and constitutional studies.

Familiarity with higher education course development, academic collaboration, management of degree programs, academic research, academic publications, and pedagogy.

Ability to develop programs and outputs in a progressive manner, over years, building on experience and attentive to emerging opportunities and growth.

A history of success with a range of individuals from various backgrounds and ranks, including faculty, external partners, and benefactors.

A record of achievement developing strategic reports and documents.

An understanding of the Catholic mission of the University and a dedication to its fulfillment.

Familiarity with using data and analytics for documenting success.

Exceptional communication (written and oral) and project management skills.

High level of attention to detail, ethical values, and initiative to work with a range of staff to achieve program and project goals.

Because of the dynamic nature of program growth and development, an ability to think and plan strategically and to work with changing needs and demands is a necessity.

Due to the sensitive nature of many responsibilities in this position, an understanding of how best to maintain the security and confidentiality of information is required, as well as the proper dissemination and communication of timely details.

Due to the collaborative nature of the responsibilities and processes associated with this position, an ability and history of fostering a strong sense of teamwork is highly valued.
