Job Description

Birdhouse Books in Austin, TX is looking for one bookstore manager to join our small team. We are a new, community-focused bookstore serving Brentwood, Crestview, Allendale, and the surrounding neighborhoods. We are located on 5925 Burnet Rd Austin in Northwest Center. Our ideal candidate is friendly, creative, a quick learner, and loves books!

• 1.5x pay for 5 holidays: Juneteenth: June 19, Independence Day: July 4, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Christmas Eve: December 24 
• Predictable daytime schedule: our store is open Tuesdays-Saturdays 10 am-6 pm, Sundays 12 pm-6 pm.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the book and gifts store, including but not limited to opening and closing tills, assisting customers, restocking and reorganizing displays as needed throughout the day, and keeping the space orderly and tidy
• Assist owner with store launch, including creation of new store processes and procedures
• Hire and oversee store staff, including creating schedules and staff processes
• Create and maintain store displays of books and gifts
• Assist owner with inventory orders for new titles and gift items, and re-orders of popular items
• Receive inventory orders and enter products into the store's point of sale system
• Regular re-order of store supplies
• Regular on-site event support. Event support includes facilitation of weekend children's story times, and set up/tear down for author events. Author events include setting up required seating, welcoming authors and guests, testing mics, and ensuring materials are ready for author signing
• Occasional off-site event support including set up/tear down of booth, staffing the event, and assisting customers at the event
• Post to store social media accounts as needed

Qualifications

• A spirit of welcoming and inclusion and a strong customer-service focus
• Ability to think creatively in problem solving
• Experience in retail management
• Experience selling and creating orders and products in any point of sale system
• Experience in people management including hiring, staff scheduling, and creation of staff processes and responsibilities
• Experience creating and curating aesthetically pleasing retail displays
• Ability to lift or assist with lifting heavy boxes of 40+ pounds
• A love of books and reading is a must!
