Job Description

The Coordinator, Sustainability Data is responsible for collecting, analyzing and consolidating CN’s sustainability information to address internal and external sustainability reporting requirements. The position looks to maintain and improve CN’s reputation by ensuring that sustainability information used with key stakeholders is of high quality. These activities support tracking CN’s performance as well as the development, implementation and ongoing management of CN’s sustainability strategy.
Main Responsibilities
Data Collection, Analysis and Reporting

· Perform the annual environmental data collection process required to meet key disclosures such as CN’s Delivering Responsibly, CN’s Data Supplement, Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), and Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) reports

· Work cross-functionally to gather sustainability data from various sources and to identify opportunities to improve the data collection and management processes, reflecting best practices and disclosure requirements

· Consolidate data and develop reports for internal and external consumption

· Perform quality assurance and quality control on environmental data

· Support annual data assurance process with external auditors

· Support the development of requirements for a robust information system to handle sustainability environmental data

· Collaborate to assess emerging data technologies and systems and recommend approaches to maintain CN as a leader in sustainability information and data management

Sustainability Reporting

· Support CN’s response to Equity, Sustainability, Governance (ESG) questionnaires from third-party rating agencies, including project management, information gathering, and content development

· Support the effort to track and influence scoring from third-party ESG rating agencies to understand and improve CN’s performance

· Support the monitoring of trends and best practices in external sustainability reporting and disclosures, to inform CN’s approach and ensure CN maintains a leadership role in the industry

· Support the engagement with internal functions to inform on sustainability best practices, emerging sustainability items and opportunities, in order to help drive CN’s sustainability performance
Sustainability Initiatives

· Provide project management support to various sustainability initiatives as they arise

· Conduct best practice research to analyze the North American and global sustainability landscape to help CN continue to evolve its sustainability strategy

· Support internal and external sustainability communications, ensuring consistency and alignment of sustainability data, including annual reports, investor reports, public presentations and speeches, customer and public communications, website, and press releases
Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday.
Requirements
Experience

Data and Information Management

· Between 3 to 5 years of experience handling data and information

o Experience in information management and process mapping

o Experience in data quality assurance and quality control

o Experience in trend analysis, forecasting, back-casting, and scenario analysis

o Experience in handling relationships with cross-functional internal stakeholders

o Experience in the transportation industry*

Education/Certification/Designation

· Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Mathematics, Sustainability Management, Engineering, Information and Digital Technology, or equivalent

Technical Skills/Knowledge

· Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including the ability to perform data analysis and identify the gaps and trends in data

· Strong technical proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel)

· Knowledge of emergent data, digital, and information technology systems, solutions and platforms and ability to translate it into sustainable business and innovation processes

· Knowledge of climate change impacts, carbon trends and best practices globally*

· Knowledge of carbon and sustainability management and accounting, reporting and disclosure trends, as well as standards and best practices*

· Knowledge of trends and best practices in sustainability transparency, disclosures, and communications*

· Fluently bilingual both written and verbal (English, French) *

· Knowledge or experience of emissions reporting and sustainability reporting*
