Organizer

Based in Northeast Ohio

This is a full-time organizing position based in Northeast Ohio. Organizers are responsible for a variety of aspects including building relationships with non-union workers, developing organizing plans for assigned areas, recruiting, sustaining and organizing committee members and activists, having 1:1 conversation with workers and leaders and implementing organizing campaigns. Union experience highly preferred.

Requirements include:

• Assist and empower non-union workers to join our union
• Conduct broad and intensive outreach efforts to non-union workers
• Building one-on-one relationships with workers
• Conducting individual and group meetings with workers to move organizing campaigns forward
• Engaging, motivating and mobilizing workers to take action
• Planning and carrying out actions and events to support worker organizing efforts
• Leadership recruitment and mobilization for contract negotiations
• Mobilizing members to take political action
• Be able to work independently while also being able to incorporate feedback from the Organizing Director
• At least 1 year of previous labor and/or community organizing, a background in union organizing is strongly preferred

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

• Organize and mobilize workers
• Ability to conduct one-on-one visits, site visits meetings and other interaction with workers
• Enter assessments and other data collected in a database on a regular basis
• Dedicated to social and economic justice
• Ability to exercise judgment under stress
• Ability to work well with diverse people.
• Computer literacy required, including basic computer/web functions and social media platforms
• Ability to speak language(s) in addition to English preferred
• Must be able to attend meetings at irregular hours; must have a valid driver’s license.

Salary/Benefits: $40,000 to $60,000
