Job Title: Surgical Tech CWR

Location: Edison, NJ

Job Summary: The Surgical Tech I is responsible for cleaning and handling instruments following standard policies while maintaining updated records.

Essential Job Functions:

• Follows policy in standardization of set-ups and utilizes surgeon preferences, assuming responsibility for the care and proper handling of instruments by neatly organizing all instrumentation before returning to the decontamination room and returning all clean supplies to designated areas.
• Maintains count of sponges, needles, and instruments, and administers and labels medications according to established policy.
• Handles specimens in accordance with O.R. Policy and Procedures.
• Controls contamination and provides for decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, and sanitation of instruments and equipment.
• Removes used equipment and properly disposes of contaminated needles and syringes at the end of procedures.
• Participates in team conferences to plan care, evaluates the effectiveness of patient care, and assists the circulator in revising the plan of care.
• Maintains ST skills proficiency checklist up to date by checking off equipment and cases, circulating or scrubbing when rotated through specialty areas.
• Lifts a minimum of 50 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 400 lbs., and stands for the length of the shift.
• Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (e.g., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
• Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.

Education:

• Required Education: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program or appropriate training program.

Certifications & Licensure:

• Preferred Certifications & Licensure: Professional certification by the AST.

Schedule Notes:

• 5:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday-Friday.
• Holidays: As needed.
• No weekends.
• At least 4 on-call shifts per month as needed or, if unable to do on-call shifts, one weekend day a month.
• At least 2 years of experience as a Surgical Tech in an Acute Care facility is required.
• BLS (AHA) certification is required.
• Experience in at least two of the following specialties is required: Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Robotic, Endovascular Surgery.
• No float requirements.
• Ratio: One Tech per one case.
• Must be highly reliable and available to work all days except those pre-disclosed prior to the offer.
• Must not have alternative jobs that would interfere with this schedule being a priority.
